It’s not your boss who writes that check

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33 NLT)

Perhaps the greatest barrier to wholeheartedly pursuing God’s kingdom above all else is misplaced trust in the person who signs your paycheck. No one deserves that kind of trust, and many of them will eventually prove unworthy of it.

The Lord alone deserves your trust. It is he who provides that paycheck, not your employer. And it is he who will provide “all these things” when your employer betrays your trust and pushes you out the door.

How different our lives and world would be if all of us devoted our best energies every day to pursuing God’s kingdom and justice — and trusted him to provide our daily needs.
