Most of our earnest prayers are motivated by a desire or need in our lives. The most basic reason to pray, however, is that prayer is an act of worship — recognizing that God is God and we are not, acknowledging that Christ alone is worthy of “blessing and honor and glory and power.” (Revelation 5:13).
Our prayers, in fact, play a role in the worship of God in heaven. Revelation 5:8 says the incense filling the golden bowls before God’s throne is the prayers of God’s people!
Do you suppose the amount of incense in the heavenly bowl is directly related to the abundance — or paucity — of your prayer?
