‘Take the time’ for ‘the least of these’

One track on Mercy Me’s new album, The Hurt & The Healer, strikes right to the heart of the self-absorbed Christian religiosity that has no heart for “the least of these.”

Shallow is the voice of no concern
Running through the bridges that we’ve burned
You can’t even feel your own demise
So how can you pretend to lead the blind?

If “pure and genuine religion” is to get personally involved in caring for people in need, then what fills our pews (and theater chairs) today is impure and inauthentic. It won’t inherit the Kingdom.
