Bethlehem’s star: Natural miracle?

In an interesting article in today’s Baptist Press, attorney and legal professor Rick Larson says you don’t have to choose between miracle and nature when trying to understand the origin of the star the Bible says heralded the birth of the Christ child.

“If the star was part of the natural order, and our solar system and the universe is like a great clock – mathematically precise and predictable – then that means … God built the star into the structure of the solar system in the universe from the beginning of time,” Larson told Baptist Press. “From the moment He flung the universe into existence He had installed the marker that says, ‘Messiah has come.’ What’s miraculous if that’s not miraculous?”

Larson used a common computer program to illustrate astronomical events in 3 B.C. and 2 B.C. that could fit the Bible’s description of the star the Wise Men followed. The result: a 63-minute movie called “The Star of Bethlehem.”
